Journal on African Philosophy [JAP], a peer-reviewed online journal that promotes the study of African and African Diaspora philosophy and studies worldwide from a broad (critical) perspective. The journal provides a forum for discussing philosophical issues pertaining to African and African Diaspora politics, legal theory, jurisprudence, aesthetic sensibilities, values, metaphysics and cultural traditions.
Note From The Editor
Welcome to the redesigned Journal on African Philosophy. We hope to make this the premier place that scholars, researchers, students and policy makers interested in the subject will come to both as scholarly contributors and readers in search of cutting-edge knowledge and information. This is an ambition that the journal has always had. But it is one that certain exigencies in the past did not allow it to realize. Recent events have removed or attenuated those exigencies and the hope is that henceforward not only will the journal be regular, it will be seen to be moving faster on the path to realizing this stated goal.
Here is how we plan to proceed in this new dispensation:
The maximum turnaround time for submitted full-length articles will be 120 days within which authors will be advised on whether or not their piece is accepted or rejected.
Book reviews and other short pieces will be assessed within 60 days of submission.
Authors of accepted pieces must, in turn, apply due diligence in making appropriate and\or suggested revisions to their articles.
The journal will carry a significant Book Review section. This section aims to provide a forum for critical information about books in the field that are unlikely to be reviewed elsewhere or, if reviewed, may not be done by those who work in the field.
PALAVER is a new section which will, from time to time, invite 3 or 4 scholars to engage a specific significant text and then ask the author of the text to respond. The idea here is to create a pattern of internal dialogue that should with time encourage scholars in the discipline to engage one another rather than having their voices lost in alternative outlets that do not reach their most relevant audience.
OFFPRINT is a new section that will reproduce seminal articles from many of those founding debates about African philosophy in journals that have mostly gone into oblivion and others that are not easily available to a global audience.
There will be THEMED [Special Focus] editions that will be announced sometimes years in advance with Guest Editors selected for their expertise in the relevant areas.
