The Erotics of Under/Development in Walter Rodney: On Sexual or Body Politics and Political Economics for Guerilla Intellectualism

Greg Thomas

Abstract

The rhetoric of development is typically presumed to be a specifically political-economic rhetoric by bourgeois and non-bourgeois, imperialist and anti-imperialist perspectives on race and Western empire. But it is also and simultaneously a sexual-erotic (psycho-sexual/socio-sexual) rhetoric, language or discourse as, I shall argue, Rodney's writings in How Europe Underdeveloped Africa and beyond help reveal.

Keywords

Walter Rodney, development, underdevelopment, socio-sexual, psycho-sexual
